Nature, fantasy & identity

Elizabeth Rau weaves artistic narratives through animal designs and explorations of abstracted natural forms. Born in China in 1998, and later adopted, Rau grew up in California with a love for nature, wildlife, and fantasy. She combines these inspirations with themes of dual identity, independence, and resilience found in self-expression.

Rau is a traditional artist who creates illustrative works drawing from American traditional and Japanese tattoo styles, geometry, and shapes found in nature including fur and flames. She uses these visual sources combined with personal interpretations of line and shape to create a hybrid style of representational work. Rau completed her Bachelor of Arts, Media, and Technology at Oregon State University — Cascades where she earned the Capstone exhibition award for Best in Show.
